Admission Requirements for American Curriculum

Admission to AUS is competitive, and the required minimum average for admission consideration will depend on the number of qualified applicants and available seats.

Below are the minimum admission requirements. Requirements might change without prior notice based on the majors. The final decision regarding any application is made by the Office of Admissions.

Applicants graduating from an American high school curriculum are required to obtain the following:

• a minimum of 85% average in each of the last three years of secondary education. Applicants applying early must have a minimum of 85% in both grades 10 and 11
   
• a minimum grade of B (or equivalent) in the required subjects to be considered for admission to engineering, science, architecture, interior design and business majors (see the website for a list of majors and the required subjects).
   

• * an English Language Proficiency report from any of the following tests with the listed minimum scores: 

   

• a minimum score of 450 in the SAT Mathematics section.
   

• a certificate of equivalency for their secondary education certificate (required by the UAE Ministry of Education). Click here for more information.

   

• Advanced Placement Test(s) are not mandatory to join AUS. However, applicants who attain 4 points out of 5 in AP Test subjects may be awarded course credits for freshman-level courses. For more information, refer to the Transfer of Credits section here.

   

• At the initial stage, unattested documents are accepted. After processing the application or upon admission, all documents must be attested, as applicable, for the file to be completed and for course registration eligibility.

All applicants must also submit a personal statement and two recommendation letters from their school: one from a school counselor and one from a teacher.  In addition, applicants to the majors of architecture, design management, and interior design should submit a portfolio.

It is important to understand that the average minimum requirement of 85% serves as a guideline for admission to AUS, which is a competitive process. The actual minimum average needed for an admission offer may be higher and can vary based on several factors, such as academic performance, the chosen college or major, and specific program requirements. For STEM and similar majors, applicants may need to have an equivalent grade of at least a B in Mathematics and Physics. Additional considerations include SAT scores (if applicable), the number of qualified applicants, seat availability, and English proficiency, which is assessed through TOEFL or IELTS scores.
 

Early Admission (highly recommended)

Applicants are encouraged to apply early. If you are in your final year of secondary school, you are encouraged to apply for early admission by submitting official grade reports for grades 10 and 11.

Early admission is only offered to highly qualified applicants. Admission is not considered final until students submit a recognized and officially certified secondary school certificate or equivalent showing successful completion of secondary education and meeting all the conditions as listed in the Admission Letter.
